CTLT
Mission: Catalyzing and
co-creating the transformation of learning
environments through the use of assessment
so that all are engaged in learning and
empowered to positively contribute in a
global society.
The Center for
Transforming Learning and Teaching (CTLT)
will build on and sustain work that was
started in 2003 by the Colorado Consortium
for Data-Driven Decisions (C2D3), a
five-year project funded by a grant from the
Colorado Department of Education. CTLT
builds on the information-based educational
practices that were the focus of C2D3,
transforming the C2D3 initiatives into
professional development and support for
educators as they implement 21st century
standards-based practices.
Our work over
the past five years has taken us to places
even farther than we might have imagined. 21st
century standards-based education builds on
those premises first introduced in 1993 (or
even farther back with outcomes based
education) and seeks to prepare all
learners, regardless of age, for life and
jobs that don’t yet exist. What does it take
to be a life-long learner? What are those
skills that we need and how do we best use
them? If, as some purport, public education
needs massive change, what does that change
look like? The growing vision of C2D3 to
CTLT works to express the growth in thinking
about standards based education over the
past decade. The fact that all learners need
to not just know how to recognize what they
know, know what they don’t know and know
what they need to do to reach those targets
that have been clarified for all is part of
empowering learners and increasing their
engagement, motivation and efficacy.
We look forward to interacting with,
contributing to, co-creating with, and
catalyzing others in engaging and empowering
all learners in 21st century
standards-based education.
